Meet the Founder: Alex Depompolo
Alex Depompolo is a sustainability strategist and global connector with a passion for building climate-smart, people-centered transportation systems. She launched Big Ideas in Action to spotlight scalable, community-driven solutions—and to create space for cross-regional learning between the Global South and Global North.
With more than a decade of experience advancing transportation and climate innovation across the U.S. and Latin America, Alex brings both strategic vision and tactical execution. Her career has spanned public policy, private sector innovation, and nonprofit leadership—including helping Amazon launch its transition to electric delivery vehicles from the ground up, scaling from zero to 24,000+ chargers nationwide.
She has led programs backed by the Kresge Foundation, CDC, and U.S. DOT, influenced federal climate policy, and collaborated with local leaders from Bogotá to Boston. Whether coordinating global stakeholders or rewriting federal advocacy campaign strategy to respond to fast-changing environments, Alex is known for her ability to lead through complexity—and move good ideas into action.
With Big Ideas in Action, she is now focused on elevating bold, place-based work from underrepresented regions, starting with a cross-continental initiative to connect African and Latin American mobility experts. Her work reflects a deep belief that knowledge sharing must be mutual—and that true sustainability starts by listening to those closest to the challenge.

Beyond the Work
When she’s not building climate collaborations or scaling infrastructure solutions, Alex brings the same spirit of curiosity and exploration to her personal life. A few fun facts about her:

-
A lifelong book lover and fashion enthusiast, she is equally indulgent in a great novel or a beautifully tailored coat.
-
A certified scuba diver, Alex has completed open water deep dives and seeks out oceans as often as cities.
-
She switched from skiing to snowboarding, but remains loyal to both—occasionally switching back depending on the slope (and mood).
-
A devoted fan of quirky trivia and clever storytelling, she rarely misses an episode of her favorite podcast, No Such Thing as a Fish.
-
She’s currently planning her next adventure—to Lima, Peru, to explore its cultural, culinary, and coastal offerings.
-
Recently introduced to the world of polo, she’s fast becoming a superfan of the sport’s intensity, tradition, and global reach.

Alex brings this same energy of lifelong learning, cross-cultural curiosity, and joyful discovery to her professional mission—building a more connected, sustainable, and equitable future across continents.
Commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility
Supporting our global community in 2024 included volunteering in Bogotá, Colombia to help local leaders celebrate the 50th anniversary of Ciclovía (Open Streets) with a 2-day conference convening open streets advocates from Nigeria to L.A and South Africa to the Netherlands.
